The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

Signs you need an emergency wisdom tooth extraction today
Most wisdom tooth removals are planned weeks ahead. An emergency extraction is the one that can't wait for that.
- A gum infection around the tooth that has come back again, or that antibiotics haven't cleared

What happens at your same-day visit
Everything starts with the X-ray. It shows the shape of the roots, the tilt of the tooth, and how near it lies to the lower jaw's nerve or the sinus above the upper teeth. A wisdom tooth that's fully through the gum with straight roots comes out as a simple extraction. One that's under the gum, tilted, or has curved roots calls for a surgical extraction: the gum is opened up, a little bone may need to come away, and the tooth often leaves in pieces.
You see the price before anything else. Our dentist writes it down. You decide.
Numbing. We place local anesthetic around the tooth and test the area before starting. You'll feel pressure and hear some noise, nothing sharp; if you do, say so and we add more.
The extraction itself. A simple extraction is over in minutes once you're numb. A surgical one takes longer and usually ends with a few stitches, often the kind that dissolve on their own.
Before you leave. You bite on gauze and get written aftercare instructions, a prescription if one is needed, and our number for that evening.
Cost of an emergency wisdom tooth extraction in Osprey
For patients without insurance, the exam and X-ray are $99. The extraction carries its own price, set by what the X-ray shows: a simple removal and a surgical one are different procedures with different fees. That figure goes on paper before we begin. Our office is at 416 S Tamiami Trl Ste F4, Osprey, FL 34229, on US 41 between Historic Spanish Point to the north and Oscar Scherer State Park to the south. If you're coming from Interstate 75, exit 200 puts you on State Road 681, which meets US 41 just south of us. Patients from South Sarasota come straight down US 41, 14 to 20 minutes. From Nokomis, it's US 41 north through Laurel, 10 to 15 minutes. Palmer Ranch patients at the south end can take Honore Avenue to SR 681 and follow it west to US 41.

How long does a wisdom tooth extraction take?
A simple extraction is usually over in minutes once you're numb. A surgical one, where the tooth is under the gum or has to be divided, takes longer, and the numbing and paperwork add time on either side. Plan on the visit taking a good part of the morning or afternoon, and don't schedule anything demanding right after.
What should I eat afterward?
Cool, soft food for the first day: yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, a smoothie eaten with a spoon. No straws, because the suction can pull the clot out of the socket. Skip hot drinks, alcohol and smoking for the time listed on your aftercare sheet. Add firmer food back as the site stops being sore.
How do I avoid dry socket?
Dry socket happens when the blood clot that protects the bone comes loose or dissolves early, leaving the socket open and sore. It tends to appear a few days after the extraction, as pain that worsens instead of easing. Straws, smoking and hard rinsing raise the risk. If it happens, call us; a medicated dressing in the socket brings relief quickly.
