The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

Signs you need an emergency tooth extraction today
Our dentists remove a tooth when keeping it no longer makes sense: a tooth split through the root, a molar so hollowed by decay that a filling has nothing left to hold, an adult tooth that wobbles from advanced gum disease, or a root infection that came back after treatment. Some teeth that look finished can still be kept: a deep cavity on a sound root is often a candidate for an emergency root canal instead. The X-ray decides, not a guess, so we never call it over the phone.
Swelling that has reached the eye or spread under the jaw, a fever with it, or any trouble swallowing or breathing means an emergency room first. Hospitals treat spreading infection and injuries; they generally don't treat the tooth itself, so reach us when you're discharged.
What happens at your same-day visit
One of our dentists takes an X-ray and reads it with the tooth in view. It shows the number of roots, whether they curve, and how near they run to the sinus above or the nerve canal in the lower jaw. That decides the kind of extraction.
A simple extraction means the tooth is intact above the gum and lifts out in one piece. A surgical extraction means the tooth is broken off, partly buried, or has hooked roots, so the gum is opened and the tooth is removed in sections. Both are done here.
The diagnosis and the written price come first. Once you agree, the area is numbed, and nothing starts until a test touch registers no feeling at all. A simple extraction usually takes a few minutes once you're numb. A surgical one takes longer. You leave biting on gauze, with printed aftercare and the number to call that evening.

What does an extraction feel like?
Pressure and some pushing, but not sharp pain. The area is fully numb before we begin, and we check with a test touch. Expect soreness for a few days, eased by whatever over-the-counter medicine our dentist suggests; swelling peaks around day two, then fades.
What should I do tonight while I wait?
Rinse gently with warm salt water. An over-the-counter pain reliever, used the way its label says, helps. Never rest aspirin on the gum, since it burns the tissue. Something cold held to the cheek, 15 minutes at a time with breaks between, eases swelling. If the swelling grows or you get a fever, go to an emergency room instead of waiting for morning.
What are the rules after the tooth is out?
Keep biting on the gauze for as long as we tell you to. For 72 hours, no straws, no smoking, no hard spitting, and no rinsing the first day. Those pull the clot out and cause a dry socket, which is sore and slow to heal. Eat soft foods, and call us if bleeding hasn't slowed by evening.
